Vintage Sports Car Club of America, Inc.

February 27, 2003 To: All Members From: Bob Klingenburg-Activities Chairman-5 Wilcox Drive, Mountain Lakes, NJ 07046 Tel: (973) 334-7342, e-mail: bobklingenburg@hotmail.com

Greetings from northern New Jersey, where the snow seems never to melt, despite several days recently that actually reached temperature levels above freezing.  It is difficult, with trailers still buried in snow, to become sufficiently motivated to fill out entry forms for our initial two track events of the season.
But that is precisely what I will now ask you to do.  The Spring Sprints at the incomparably lovely Lime Rock Park in Connecticut, and our Pocono event, where track time is as plentiful as the smiles on the faces of the attendees, are included in this mailing. These events really do require your immediate attention, because, both the events, and the surrounding hotels, will fill up very quickly. Lime Rock always fills up, and everyone knows that you have to act quickly to get a room there. But Pocono will likely fill up quickly this year as well, due to the school being conducted at Pocono in addition to at Lime Rock this year.
Enclosed with this mailing are two "generic" VSCCA Event Entry Forms, and two "generic" VSCCA Event Technical Inspection Sheets. As I had mentioned in a prior mailing, in an attempt to eliminate the costs associated with including a tech sheet and entry form in every mailing to every member, when only a small fraction are used (hopefully a much smaller fraction going unused after the last rousing letter), these will be the only ones you receive this year.

They are generic, and can be used for most track events by filling in the entry form and sending it to the name and address listed on the event announcement sheet that will come o ut in a mailing prior to the event. Tech sheets are not sent to the Event Chairman along with the entry form. They are filled out by the entrant, after going over his or her car very carefully prior to the event, and then brought to the event for review and completion by the tech inspector at the track.
PLEASE KEEP THESE FORMS.
Do not throw them away if you are not entering an immediately upcoming event. You will need them. Make as many copies of them as you need, or you can pull them off the website as needed. If you lose them, and haven't made copies, and have no access to the website, please contact either me or the Event Chairman for the event you wish to attend, and we will be more than happy to get you one.
Also enclosed with this mailing is a modifications guideline that should be used in conjunction with the Car Classification Committee (CCC) grid style sheet sent out in a recent mailing. This modifications guideline really should have gone out together with that CCC sheet, but it didn't, so here it is. Hopefully you have retained that CCC sheet, and can use it effectively in conjunction with this guideline to ensure that your car is fully in compliance. As I cautioned in recent mailings, I've heard that there may be more emphasis on compliance this year. Certain things that might have been overlooked in the past, might not be overlooked this year.
The Southern Rallye and Tech will probably be right upon us when this mailing hits your mailbox. If it is not yet March 15th when you receive this, it is not too late to participate. A time speed distance rallye is an unusual treat for the VSCCA, and it should not be missed. Contact Ralph Steinberg at (610) 459-2120 or (610) 364-9966, or e-mail Ralph@cloverleaf-auto.com if you have lost the sheet containing the details of this event.
Don't forget the Hershey Hill Climb on April 26th and 27th. VSCCA members who are on the VSCCA's approved drivers list will be accepted, and VSCCA log books, if current, will be accepted as evidence of your cars compliance with our safety regulations. You will, however, need to furnish proof of a medical. Contact them at www.svvscc.org, or svvscc@usa.net.
The next mailing will contain the announcement and specific entry form for the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix. That announcement will actually be slightly out of order, coming ahead of several of our other event announcements. But we need to firm things up early on that event due to the extraordinary effort required to put on such a spectacular show in the middle of a large city. See you out there.
