I'm glad to be able to report that both the Northern Tech Meeting and the Southern Tech Meeting were extremely well attended, and came off without a hitch. I observed not a trace of a skirmish between North and South at either venue. Prodigious amounts of delicious food and drink were consumed at each, and an equally prodigious and delicious amount of money was raised at each. Mr. Donick really has missed his true calling as an auctioneer of the highest order. Congratulations, and sincere thanks to KTR, David George, and Ralph Steinberg for starting us off so well this year.
As one final reminder/clarification to students, it is the Spring Sprints/Drivers School at Lime Rock, CT on Friday, April 11th at 9:00AM that students are to report.
Pocono is not far away, and in all the excitement over the event, we didn't tell you where the Friday night dinner is to be held. I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you. No, actually, it's not a state secret at all. We just forgot to tell you. It's at the same place we have been going for many years, the Village Squire on Route 940 in Blakesley, PA. Please be there by about 6:30 PM (Cocktails and camaraderie will begin earlier I'm sure). You get there by proceeding north (the opposite direction from the track) about a mile from the Blakeslee exit off of Route 80. It is on the left, just prior to the first traffic light.
As you know by now, the Hershey Hillclimb follows Pocono, and is filling up fast. Representatives from this event were at the Southern Tech and it sounds like a winner. We are very fortunate that we have been invited to play along with them, and we should take full advantage of it. Their website is www.SVVSCC.org. Contact them at SVVSCC@usa.net or (717) 761-0165. If you have problems, contact Sandy Sadtler or myself, and we will get you squared away. Please come and spectate, or better yet, volunteer, even if you don't want to run a car. They can always use an extra hand in manning a corner or some similarly helpful endeavor. A recent correction to the information previously provided regarding this event is that a current copy of your VSCCA membership card, in conjunction with your name appearing on the VSCCA list of approved drivers list, will suffice in lieu of a medical.
An important bit of new information from VIR is that CAMPING WILL BE ALLOWED. And, as we have previously told you, the facilities are new, private, clean, and first rate. Think about how lovely it will be under the stars of the Virginia sky in May. Not to cold, not too hot, just right, and probably a few pretty good late night parties as well. Now you have no excuse not to see this first class facility for yourself.
As a refresher, we are no longer sending out an entry form or a tech sheet to every member in every mailing, because not every member signs up for every event. Although after the last several rousing mailings, that might just be changing. But that doesn't mean that you do not need to bring a tech sheet to the event with you. If you have misplaced the tech sheet, it is available from either of the VSCCA web sites. If you have no web access, and you have misplaced the ones that were sent to you, please contact the Event Chairman for the event you are entering, or me, and we will be happy to get one to you. But don't forget, or ignore it, because you will only delay yourself and everyone else in the tech line without the completed tech form at the ready.
Included with this mailing is the announcement for the Hunewell Hill climb. While this event is limited to pre war entries, it is not limited to any particular vintage of spectator. All are welcome to view the proceedings at this unique event.
Also included with this mailing is the announcement for the event at Lime Rock, which we share with our friends in the Jaguar Club. As usual, use the generic entry form, a copy of which you have undoubtedly retained from a prior mailing, to enter this lovely low-key event. Also, remember to prepare a tech inspection sheet in advance, and bring it with you to the track.
You should have recently received a mailing pertaining to the Labor Day Lime Rock Park Vintage Festival from Steve Earle. As anyone who attended that event last year can tell you, it was a tremendous success that will undoubtedly grow very quickly in attendance. Even though Labor Day still seems to be a long time away, with the last remnants of the winters' snow blocking trailers, do not delay in attending to this entry, or you may find yourself excluded from participation. Mr. Earles' philosophy coincides very nicely with that of the VSCCA, and our goal in strongly supporting this event should be to completely fill the field with our cars.
Also enclosed with this mailing is a survey which I will ask you to take the time to complete regardless of whether you currently participate in track events or not. In fact, it is all the more important that we hear from those of you who do not participate, or haven't participated in a track event in a while. We really want to know what you are thinking. It is your club. These are your events. Moreover, while the survey is obviously geared towards track events, please don't hesitate to tell me how you feel about the broader range of activities currently being offered by the club. For instance, should the club be offering more/less Rallies/Tours? How about an autocross event? A car show? More formal dinners? More less-formal dinners? Whatever. As you can tell from my mailings, I'm committed to trying to get every one of you out to as many events as at all possible. They are all spectacularly interesting and enjoyable venues in which to enjoy our prized toys and each other's company. If you take a few moments of your valuable time to indicate how you feel, we will listen, and act accordingly.
