The VSCCA Annual Fall Rally

LOCATION: The Annual Fall Rally, a.k.a. The Nutmeg Rally will take place on Saturday, October 25.

This year, the tour will once again wend hither and yon in the environs of Sturbridge, Massachusetts. This rally has been an annual event for more than ten years now thanks to the participation of those VSCCA members who have an interest in exploration of new vistas.
NITTY GRITTY Each car entry (driver and navigator) will receive a set of explicit route instructions. These instructions are interspersed with an abundance of esoteric questions; answers to which are to be found between points A and B (A and B being what we refer to as Execution Points). For those who may find questions overly tedious, we promise that there will be some sections where there are no questions; this, in order for you to fully enjoy the things that your chosen conveyance and Mother Nature can offer you.

DISTANCE The rally route will probably cover about 100 miles (total). The plan is that these will be on rural roads offering a modicum of traffic.

LODGING The Comfort Inn and Suites Colonial in Sturbridge, Massachusetts. Although we have reserved 20 rooms at the Comfort Inn, their availability may be questionable after June 1. It seems that the foliage season is usually the busiest for the Sturbridge area, consequently, last minute requests for lodging may prove fruitless. We urge you to make your reservations as early as possible. Although the actual mailing for the rally will list many other possibilities for lodging, it would seem probable that based on our difficulty in acquiring these 20 rooms (range from $119.99 to $164.99), other accommodations in the area will be somewhat limited by then if not nonexistent.

NOURISHMENT Breakfast: The Comfort Inn serves a complete continental breakfast beginning at 6:00 am. Should you prefer something a bit more robust, adjacent to the Inn, a Cracker Barrel facility can certainly meet early-morning hunger pangs.
Lunch: A number of years ago our tour stopped at the Golden Lamb Buttery for lunch. Unfortunately, that year, the weather was abominable. This year, the weather goddess promises glorious touring weather. (If it resembles last year's rally in any way, this rally master will be overjoyed.) Those of you who were with us then will remember the welcoming charm of the Buttery. It has been selected year-after-year as one of Connecticut's most romantic eateries.
Dinner: The dinner location this year will be remote from our lodgings at The Comfort Inn. Although the drive from the Inn to the dinner location at The Salem Cross Inn will require 15 minutes, I guarantee that it will be worth it. If you happen to be a devotee of roast beef, THIS IS DEFINITELY THE PLACE! More on that particular history during dinner.

ANCILLARY INFORMATION Our faithful master of ceremonies and fellow rally master, Jim Donick will once again challenge us with his usually wonderful accumulation of questions whose answers lie somewhere along the rally route (in between the execution points - remember?). Then following dinner, you'll have the opportunity to match wits with Jim should there be disagreement. A note to the wise, I've not seen Jim defer from his elected answer in lo these many years.

So please consider joining with us on this year's fall rally. The foliage should be fully upon us, as such, it promises to offer wonderful motoring with memorable cars and splendid friends. Dick McGinnis aceca@worldnet.att.net
