THE ANNUAL HUNNEWELL HILLCLIMB - FOR PREWAR and SELECTED POSTWAR CARS
Wellesley, Massachusetts Sunday, May 11, 2003
Again this year, through the kindness of the Hunnewell family, the VSCCA
will hold its hillclimb on the paved driveway of the Hunnewell property on
Pond Road in Wellesley (approximately 10 miles west of Boston, off Rt. 16
south of Wellesley Center - just beyond Wellesley College).
By request of the property owners, the cars eligible for this event are
Pre-WW II cars and selected Postwar cars. Postwar cars such as T-Type MGs,
HRGs will be the sorts of cars selected. Faster and
newer (late 50s) VSCCA cars will probably not be selected for this event.
The only spectators permitted on the property are VSCCA members, their
families and guests accompanying a member. Each entrance to the property
will have an officer and a members list and non-members not in company with
a member will be denied access.

As last year, entrant's cars will be parked in the shade for the
delectation of all present.
The new picnic area at the side of the house is most pleasant with a very
nice view and plenty of room for our group.
If anyone is trailering a car, please take the first right off of Pond Road
(Sandy Green's), park your tow vehicle and trailer along the dirt driveway,
unload your car and drive it to the Hunnewell estate before 10:00 AM.
Trailers will not be allowed up the hill.
Schedule for the day:
9:00 AM to 10:30 AM - Tech Inspection
10:30 AM to 12:30 PM - Practice
12:30 PM to 2:00 PM - Picnic Lunch
Bring your own brown bag, wicker basket, or silver service.
2:00 PM to 4:00 PM - Timed and Exhibition runs
Entry fee is $60.00 for timed and exhibition class. Pre-registration is
requested for all cars that will be climbing the hill. Please have your
entry in by May 6, 2003.

Please note that this hillclimb is one of the lowest key events on our
schedule. It is also a rare treat. It regularly enjoys one of the largest
turn-outs of Pre-War cars (which many would say are the heart and soul of
our Club) of any of our events. The set-up of the Hunnewell estate provides
a unique ambience for these cars. There is a friendly rivalry between the
Bugattistes and the Bentley Boys to see who can turn out the most examples
of their respective marques. The Riley Rompers usually have an excellent
representation as well. The driveway up which we run the hillclimb is short
with several interesting corners. The driveway was repaved several years ago
and so a cart-sprung Prewar car will not be shaken excessively as it
proceeds up the hill. Most runs take between 35 and 50 seconds, enough to
give those watching a vignette of the sights, sounds and smells of each
grand old car, and the driver a chance to exercise his or her steed. Of all
of our events, this is the one to keep furthest away from the "hairy edge".
This is not a place for high speeds. Like all of our events, the Hunnewell
Hillclimb has its own very special flavor. Even if your speedy post-war
vintage racer cannot run at this venue, the taste of this event is most
enjoyable and you will have a relaxed chance to visit with many other VSCCA
members. And you will see some mighty fancy picnics!
Please send entry form for your suitable VSCCA car and check for $60
(payable to VSCCA Inc.) to the Event Chairman, Sandy Leith, 136 Village
Ave., Dedham, MA 02026.
Safety equipment required: Fire extinguisher, Helmet (Snell '85 SA or
better), Nomex, Seat Belts (except exhibition class), good sense.
