SPRING SPRINTS AND DRIVERS' SCHOOL
FRIDAY, APRIL 11 & SATURDAY, APRIL 12, 2003
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you have sponsored a new member or know of someone who has recently joined, please make sure that they have received a copy of this packet (it takes awhile to get on the mailing list), and help them through the trials and tribulations of getting started in VSCCA speed events.

STUDENTS: Welcome! The VSCCA differs from other vintage clubs in its unique emphasis on preserving the cars the way they were
in their day, and in an emphasis on sportsmanship rather than on winning races.
VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: You must have been accepted as a member in order to participate in the driver's school.
This will not happen if your completed application for membership (including two letters of recommendation)
was not received by A.S. Carroll, VSCCA Secretary, by February 28th.
For students, this is now a three day event: two at Lime Rock and one at Pocono (April 19).
Here's a brief check list (please call your recommendors if you have any questions):
1. Get a permanent VSCCA car number from Frank Righetti, Tel: 914-737-7772. YOU MUST HAVE A CAR NUMBER TO RUN.
2. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A VSCCA ELIGIBLE CAR. If you have questions, please contact Jerry Greaves, Chairman of the Car Classification Committee at 203-426-6211.
3. Students: MAIL ONE ENTRY FORM for both events to Don Nattrass, 10 Lenape Lane, Doylestown, PA 18901. If need be, you can reach him by telephone at 215-348-9599 (work) or 215-348-1767 (home). STUDENTS ONLY: Send your check for $300 for the 3 days to Don.
4. If you plan to attend the dinner on April 11 at Lime Rock, MAIL the regular entry form and payment for dinner only to Rob Bettigole at the address given below.
5. Report to Don Nattrass on Friday, April 11th by 9:00 AM
at the main tower in the padock of Lime Rock Park.
FOR CURRENT VSCCA MEMBERS AND STUDENTS:
1. PDA is no longer providing us with time on Friday, which means that students will not run on the track on Friday (classroom, working corners, and walking the track only), and will only have limited time on Saturday including the lunch time break which they will use for slow track touring to learn the line -
THERE WILL BE NO SLOW TRACK TOURING AT LUNCHTIME FOR NON-STUDENTS.
2. Dinner at the Town Grove on Friday night. The dinner typically sells out, so please make your decision early if you want to come. $40/person ($20/child under 12).
3. Fill out the attached entry form, enclose payment: $160.00 per driver per car for non-students (students see above) plus amount for dinner(s), if any, and send it to Rob Bettigole, 60 Long Pond Road, Lakeville, CT 06039. You can reach him by e-mail at r.bettigole@exodermic.com, or by fax at 860-435-4868.
Please call ONLY IF IT'S REALLY NECESSARY: 860-435-0300, 5PM to 9PM.
4. IMPORTANT NOTE: The Performance Drivers Association may be able to accommodate some VSCCA members on Friday, but only in PDA groups. If you want to run with PDA contact them directly. The easiest way is to go to their website: www. imp-auto.com or call Joe Triolo or Joe Casella at 973-253-3900.
CALL FOR CORNER WORKERS: We need you on Saturday. This is a great opportunity to get close to the action while doing a big service for your fellow club members. And it's a lot of fun. No experience necessary. Please let me know if you can help out.
HOTEL NOTES: We haven't made any special arrangements. Here are a few places you can try: The Interlaken (860-435-9878), The White Hart (435-0030), The Wake Robin Inn (435-2515), and Iron Masters Motor Inn (435-9844). All are within a few miles of the track.
FRIDAY NIGHT DINNER: Drinks at 6:00 PM, Dinner at 7:15 PM, at the Town Grove, Lakeville, CT: $40/person ($20/child under 12).
REGARDING PAYMENT: You are not registered for the event until your payment is received. This event usually fills up, and although we have generally been able to accommodate every one, entries will be accepted when they are complete (including payment), and on a first come, first served basis. Please make your check out to VSCCA, Inc. If you need to cancel, please call, fax, or e-mail me 24 hours in advance of the event and we'll destroy your check.
ENTRIES ARE DUE BY APRIL 4. You must pre-register; no entries will be accepted at the track. If you feel the need (and you shouldn't') to send your entry by Fed Ex, Airborne, UPS, USPS Express Mail, etc., please make sure to indicate "no signature required"; otherwise, we reserve the right to cancel your entry! Extra trips to the P.O. are a pain in the butt!
NO ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF YOUR ENTRY WILL BE SENT. Assume the best.

EVENT CRITERIA:
1. Muffled event. Lime Rock has a strict noise limit. If you are too loud, you will be black flagged!
2. The VSCCA runs rain or shine. In the event that the track is blocked by snow, or a blizzard is forecast, and it is necessary to cancel, we will contact you. Make sure you get your phone numbers and e-mail right on the entry form so we can reach you. If in doubt about snow conditions, call.
3. Gas, food, air, water, coffee, and lunch will be available at the track.
PRESERVATION CLASS: Our club encourages owners of reasonably stock, eligible post war cars to participate in speed events. For this purpose, the club has organized the "preservation class" for cars that have full interiors, windscreens, street tires, stock (or reasonably stock) engines, etc. The preservation class has grown to fill a full session at the Spring Sprints and other events. If you own a car that is appropriate for the preservation class, and will lap Lime Rock at 1:20 or slower, we urge you to attend this event and use your car in a manner that shows its sporting heritage. Drive to the track and double your enjoyment!
OVER-MODIFIED UNDER TWO LITER CARS: Faster cars will be bumped up into the Over Two Liter and Formula Car/Sports Racer classes. By direction of the Board of Directors, Under Two Liter cars faster than 1:10 MUST run in the higher classes. Run them as they were before 1960. That's what the VSCCA is about!
CLASSES: We are planning for six classes of cars at this event: Prewar, Preservation, two under two litre classes, one over two litre class, and Formula Cars/Sports Racers. All entries are first come, first served, and the absolute limit is 33 cars per class.
LUNCH TIME TOURING: ONLY FOR STUDENTS THIS YEAR! Sorry.
CORNER WORKER RIDES: Please plan to stay at the track to give corner worker rides at the end of the day. These guys are volunteers and we owe them!
HELPERS: If you can help out at the track on Friday afternoon or anytime on Saturday, registering, gridding, corner workering, please call/write/e-mail/fax the event chairman. YOUR HELP IS NEEDED!
NOTE TO ALL ENTRANTS: This is the first event, and everyone needs to take it easy out there. Some members will be trying out new cars, students will be joining us in the afternoon, there will be lots of cars out there, tires stick a whole lot less well on the cold pavement, and we're all a year older. SO TAKE IT EASY!
SEE YOU IN APRIL! -Rob Bettigole, Event Chairman
