The Fourth Annual VSCCA "Governor's Cup" Races
Virginia International Raceway
May 3-4, 2003
VSCCA members are enthusiastically invited to attend the fourth annual revival of the "President's Cup(r)
" races,
held at VIR in the late '50's. This year's event will offer a substantial amount of track time
and a low-key atmosphere biased towards the social side at what has become an annual fixture on the VSCCA
schedule.
This weekend will feature the cars of W.O. Bentley in concert with the beginning of the 2003 North American
Vintage Bentley Meet nearby.
Track time at this event will be shared with the Mid Atlantic Alfa Romeo Club,
much the same way as we share with the Jaguar Club at Lime Rock. We will be using the 19-turn,
2.26-mile North Course,
same as we used for the 2000 MGVR Focus Event and the 3rd US Bugatti GP.
For those who are not familiar with VIR, the track is about fifteen miles east of Danville, Virginia.
The resuscitation of this grand old facility is nothing short of spectacular with an expansive paddock,
plenty of clean restrooms and Driving Impressions!
We anticipate enough entry that we will be able to run two groups of dedicated VSCCA cars,
therefore all VSCCA legal cars will be required to use VSCCA legal tires, which don't include Hoosiers,
to our knowledge...
You MUST have satisfied the DQC and HAVE a VSCCA logbook for your car in order to run in these groups
per the recent directive
from the Board of Directors!
The "Governor's Cup" will be a 2-day event, scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, May 3rd and 4th.
The entry fee will be the usual fee for VSCCA members (in VSCCA cars) of $160 (second Pre War entries at NO cost!) -
the best deal for track time in vintage racing!
Please put your Summit Point or Lime Rock lap time on your entry.
There will be no timing and scoring for the VSCCA side of the weekend, so the event chairman will determine grid positions.
People not happy with their grid position can speak with him after Labor Day.
On Saturday and Sunday, we will have our usual format of VSCCA Club racing,
with quicker and less quick race groups; two practices and a race for each competitor on Saturday,
practice and two races Sunday afternoon with one early enough so people can get a head start back home.
There will be a Bentley Feature at Noon on Sunday. All Pre-War are welcome!
The Saturday night social will be an extra cost catered affair at the track on Saturday evening.
Please make reservations soon in Danville, Virginia or nearby Roxboro, NC, as many area colleges have
graduation exercises on or around that weekend.
VSCCA Event Chair is Peter Krause, 8613 Barefoot Industrial Rd., Raleigh, NC 27617-4704.
(919) 781-1871, FAX (919) 787-9106 and electronically (preferred) at pkrause@attglobal.net
Entry forms and event information will be available at http://www.krauseandengland.com after March 5th.
Please be aware that this weekend is a busy time in Virginia's "Racing Region" particularly with area colleges
planning their graduations around this weekend. Along these lines, we ask you to book SOON at the local hostelries in Roxboro,
NC and Danville, Virginia.
Additional local information may be viewed at http://www.virclub.com Area maps, a track map and event
particulars will be mailed with your confirmation.
Camping and motor home hook-ups are NOT available at the track this year.
